Received water is sorted and isolated into tanks based on Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). All water passes through clarifiers to remove suspended solids and floating organics. The solids are neutralized with a bentonite and polymer compound and disposed in a land fill.
Water from the clarifiers goes through a three stage process to bring it within desired limits. Stage one is electro coagulation (EC). Stage two is flocculation and separation. Stage three is Reverse Osmosis (RO). The system is designed to treat water up to 9000 parts per million TDS. Treatment capacity is 20,000 barrels per day.
Exploration and production water is received by truck at a three trough unloading stations. The water is tested for TDS level and discharged to the appropriate trough through a loose mesh filter sock. Each trough has a sump with level actuated pumps.
Two clarifiers are three phase separating oil, water and solids. They are the beginning of the Clean Runner Treatment system.
Our tank farm has 15 total tanks, buffering the Clean Runner process for peak performance. This includes separate storage for recovered oils from the clarifiers.
This proprietary technology is the heart of the Clean Runner system. It consists of modular, parallel cells that electrically start the coagulation and separation of emulsified oils and metals. Once the system is "charged" and the pH is optimized. The process runs steady state at up to 600 gallons per minute.
This secondary treatment further densifies the floc. A proprietary material of polymer and bentonite clay is used. The resulting sludge ties up the oils and metals to a non-extractable form and is permitted for land fill disposal. Water from the system is run through a third finishing clarifier.
Final clarifier settles out neutralized sludge from water.
Activated carbon filters are used to remove any residual organics. Reverse Osmosis finishes the process by lowering the total dissolved solids (TDS) to within regulatory standards.
RDR has three ponds. Two ponds are standard evaporative and one pond holds clean water from the treatment system until it can be verified as meeting requirements for land application.
Verified clean water will be land applied on Red Desert Reclamation's property and/or available for sale to exploration and production companies.
Final reject water will be put into the evaporative ponds.
Any treated water that does not meet standards will be retreated through the Clean Runner system or put into the evaporative ponds and/or deep well injected.
